I was born in 1971 in Moscow in the family of an artist and a medic. The first and main teacher is my father, the animator-animator Henry Shimanets, the pupil of I. Ivanov-Vano, A. Ptushko, V. Suteev. He taught drawing cartoon in the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography.
I always remember myself with a pencil in my hands. Dad brought me a large folder of paper, and I drew scenes from performances, my stories, illustrated fairy tales. Scenes on each sheet changed, the characters of my drawings changed postures, moved, fell, danced, ran…
Dad carefully kept all the drawings in boxes, signing the year of their creation. Dad and I often drew together; I asked to draw something to my dad, and then watched with admiration the virtuosity of his drawing. Dad graduated from the postwar courses of multipliers, it was necessary to go to work to receive a specialty. He painted with ease and quickly, and the images turned out grotesque and with humor. We then discussed our drawings, laughed. Dad developed an artistic principle in me, I have been drawing since childhood. Since the age of four, my parents have written me to the Art Institute of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts under the direction of Nina Kofman. It was the most wonderful lessons! We with a group of my peers walked through the halls of the museum, watched and admired, and Nina Kofman told us fascinating stories, better than all fairy tales in the world about Ancient Egypt and Messopotamia. The stories continued in the hall of the art studio, which was in the same building as the museum, behind the secret door to which led several steps. There we at the easels drew their impressions of what they saw, listening to Myths of Ancient Greece and other fascinating stories of Nina Kofman. I even thought that she lives in a museum behind this secret door, where she has something like a cell, and when the museum extinguishes the light, she quietly steps into this world, where did she know all these stories from then? Why do I talk so much about my childhood? Because it was then that my outlook was formed, as an artist and as a teacher. From these first lessons of drawing and acquaintance with the world culture, I still draw inspiration for my work and for creative assignments with my students.
After the art studio, I studied at the art school No. 1 named after V. Serov, had lessons in the workshops of famous Moscow artists: Dmitry Cherbadzhi, Vera Khlebnikova, Valeria Geraskevich.
In 1990 I graduated from the Moscow Academic Art School in memory of 1905, a picturesque (pedagogical) department. Since 1997, I am a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia. Since 2016, I am a member of the Creative Association of Women Artists “Irida” and Professional Union of Artists of Russia. In 2009 I graduated with honors from the Moscow State Pedagogical University with a degree in psychology.
Since 1990 I teach in children’s art studios. Children – participants of children’s exhibitions, including international ones, repeatedly became winners of Moscow, Russian and international competitions. In the classroom I introduce children to the world culture and history. I consider this mandatory in the formation of the creative personality of the child. Each of us as a child goes through all the stages of the development of fine art from generalized images of the primitive world, when the children’s drawings of the first men and animals are somewhat reminiscent of rock paintings, and drawings in the preschool age clearly distinguish between heaven and earth, turning the composition into an Egyptian fresco image. And only to adolescence, children, like artists of the Renaissance, discover the depth of the picture and perspective. I understand this and try to get my students to discover different ways of compositional constructions from far times. In our lessons they will learn how the world of images in different epochs and cultures works, make imaginary travels in time, revealing the secrets of ancient paintings. We learn from old masters! I also consider it important that the child feels free at the class so that everyone can reveal their abilities and express emotions and moods in the painting. As an artist, I work in various genres of oil painting, but the genre of still life remains a favorite. Why a still life? Because in still life we see objects created by man, used by man, characterizing his way of life, his personality. But we do not see the person himself, we can only imagine him. There are so many mysteries in this genre. Looking at still lifes, we try to unravel and explain the essence of these paintings, but we will never know everything until the end, we can only guess … The subjects begin to “talk” with us, they seem to come to life to tell us about a person, about time, era. In the still life there are many symbols, all subjects are allegories. In addition, when you write a still life, you do not need to ask for items to be posed for you, they “do” it with pleasure.
Several years ago I was fond of decorative sculpture and dolls, I worked in various techniques of arts and crafts. Twice awarded the Grant of the Government of Moscow in 2004 and in 2014 in the field of education.
I am a participant of Moscow exhibitions and projects in the Central House of Artists, Manege and other exhibition grounds. The works are in private collections in Russia and abroad. My children’s drawings are kept in the collection of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. In 2008, the drawings participated in the exhibition project of the museum “Collectors and collections of children’s drawings” (drawings by Lisa Shimanets).
